The following are flowers that are generally in season all year long:
Roses
Orchids
Lilies (This includes Oriental, Asiatic and Calla lilies)
Gerbera daisies
Springtime is when nature bursts into life. Our spring comes early on the west coast and it's a lovely time to get married. Days are longer so there is lots of time for photo taking.
These flowers are only available in spring:
Tulips (with the exception of a short time in late fall early winter)
Peonies
Hyacinths
Iris (late spring)
In summer you have the largest choice of flowers, you can get almost anything other than spring flowers and a few others like Hydrangeas and Dahlias which are available in the fall. Of course summer months are the busiest, but July is by far the most requested. Book your date early and start your planning well in advance to avoid disappointment on confirming not only your special date but all your wedding needs.
There are plenty of flowers available that make excellent fall wedding flowers, despite being the season that we associate more with colourful falling leaves than flowers. All of the rich colors of reds, oranges, yellows and browns come to mind when fall arrives but you can still get many other colours as well. Fall on the coast is stunning and warm days still continue well into September making it almost as busy as July so booking early is a must.
Theses are some of the in-season flowers for fall:
Hydrangeas
Dahlias
Chrysanthemums
Sunflowers
Winters on the coast are usually very mild compared to the rest of Canada but you should bring your rain gear and waterproof boots (I guess that really goes for all seasons because we are a rain forest) but there is no need for parkas. Winter weddings are great for storm watching and spectacular photos. It is a romantic and cozy time of year when you can snuggle up inside with your partner and watch or just listen to our majestic Pacific Ocean roar its winter song.
Flower choices are similar to fall with lots of choices but prices are higher in December and February. December prices are much higher because of Christmas. In January prices drop significantly but they increase again for Valentine's Day in February. By mid February prices drop to normal levels.
One of the best gifts you can give yourself for your wedding is hiring a west coast wedding planner. They take care of every single detail, fix any problems, assist in design suggestions and know exactly who to contact for every important aspect of your wedding. They know all the great west coast venues, photographers, florists, marriage commissioners and every one else you need to create your perfect wedding. Lets just say they will become your west coast angel. So many times I hear my brides say how thankful they are that they choose to hire a wedding planner. It allowed them and their friends and family to share a memorable west coast wedding experience, leaving all the time consuming tasks to the planner. |
